Job Summary Works with geo-scientists and reservoir engineers to develop detailed objectives for new drilling projects. Develops drilling cost estimates, ranging from simple scoping to probabilistic estimates. Reviews offset wells to identify risks, hazards, and best practices. Develops detailed well designs and performs casting stress calculations. Evaluates and recommends equipment and procedures from contractors and vendors, and helps develop and implement new technologies. Provides technical support to field operations. Monitors drilling operations to ensure safety, quality, environmental compliance, and adherence to contracts. Tracks drilling costs and communicates them effectively to stakeholders. Job Responsibilities Possesses advanced applied drilling engineering experience. Contributes to knowledge areas within the function; not yet an expert in all. Makes recommendations on moderately complex project issues. Supports development of new processes, tools, and services; contributes to new product or technique development. Handles problems of diverse scope, from moderate to complex. Uses independent judgment for in-depth analysis; collaborates with senior professionals on methods and approaches. Works with little instruction on daily tasks; receives general guidance on new assignments. Serves as project/technical lead on small to medium projects; may coordinate professionals and technicians outside their department. This is the most senior skill level without moving into management or specialist tracks. Builds professional networks and connects resources to achieve goals; contributes ideas in planning sessions. Job Requirements Experience in drilling engineering required. Typically requires 10+ years of professional experience.
